When Jason Mesiarik heard the gunshots that were fired during an encounter his neighbor had with escaped prisoner Danelo Cavalcante Monday night, he called police to report the incident, Mesiarik told CNN. Several law enforcement agencies have been searching for Cavalcante in the area for nearly two weeks after he escaped from prison. “I had just finished feeding our horses when I heard the gunshots a minute or two after ten and called it in,” Mesiarik told CNN. “You never hear gunshots at night and usually I’m hearing a lot larger calibers, shotguns, targets but this one sounded like a 22," he said. Pennsylvania officials said Tuesday that Cavalcante has a .22 caliber rifle that he stole from a resident's garage overnight.

The special grand jury report in Fulton County, Georgia, was released Friday after nobody raised any objections to making the documents public before a court-imposed deadline. However, the members of the special grand jury recommended their report be published, and according to Georgia law, this means the judge is required to make it public, barring objections, according to court filings. Fulton County Superior Court Judge Robert McBurney — who presided over the special grand jury and the separate grand jury that later approved charges in the case — said on August 28 that anyone who had concerns about publicly releasing the full report should raise an objection by Wednesday of this week. “Any concerned party that believes something less than everything should be published has until 6 September 2023 to file an objection to complete publication,” McBurney wrote. “If no objections are filed by 5:00pm on 6 September 2023, the remainder of the final report will be added to the docket.”There is no indication that anyone raised any objections, so the full report was released Friday as planned.
